Ichi was an amateur yokozuna (grand champion), so he joined Pro Sumo near the elite level, skipping most of the ranking chart, and instantly becoming the highest-ranked wrestler on his pro team.
Four tournaments (8 months) after he started, he reached the top division in sumo, and set another record, going 13-2 in his top division debut!
He is one of the greatest yokozuna-killers in history, beating 5 different yokozuna, a total of 9 times!
In July, 2022, Ichi won the Emperor’s Cup by winning the tournament, the highest possible achievement in sumo competition.
