Over lunch, Levi’s CEO Chip Bergh offered to fit 600-pound Yama with a pair of blue jeans. Yama, who hasn’t been able to squeeze into jeans since middle school, immediately changed his flight to the next day, and headed over to Levi Strauss headquarters for the monster fitting! Sumo talent is supporting lead in 47 Ronin

We originally recruited Takato Yonemoto as a sumo model, due to his imposing stature. However, within weeks of meeting him, we were able to book the rookie actor in a supporting lead role, acting alongside Keanu Reeves, in the $200 million epic 47 Ronin. Takato stars as one of the main ronin (masterless samurai), appearing and speaking through much of the film.

Huge sumo practice with the JETs

We had TONS of collisions in sumo practice . . . literally! About 28 people participated, mostly alumni of the JET Program, who have all taught English in Japan.The training lasted almost 4 hours! We’re very impressed by the JETs, and are expecting some of them to be back again. Nice job, guys!


Martial Arts History Museum – Awards Ceremony
