The 2010 US Sumo Open included intense action among 30 competitors with highlights:
- World Sumo Champion “Byamba” went undefeated (12-0), to capture the US Sumo Open gold medal for his 4th year in a row. In the US Sumo Open heavyweight and openweight divisions, he has 7 gold medals and one silver medal.
- Also winning the US Sumo Open for his 4th year: Bilegee. He has won 7 US Sumo Open medals (4 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) in lightweight, middleweight, and openweight!
- Jovann Rushing was the first US competitor since 2005 to win a gold medal in a division contested by foreigners. From 2006 – 2010, there have been 20 divisions with foreign competitors, and 19 times out of 20, those foreigners won gold medals. Jovann has broken a massive streak of foreign dominance by winning gold in the lightweight division.
- Kelly Gneiting beat all opponents, except for World Champion Byamba, en route to two silver medals, a feat he accomplished at the inaugural US Sumo Open in 2001!! He now has six total US Sumo Open medals, over the years.
