KONISHIKI HIGHLIGHTS

Hawaiian-born KONISHIKI is one of the greatest sumo wrestlers of all time, and the heaviest pro sumo wrestler ever, at over 600 pounds. KONISHIKI was the first foreigner ever attain "ozeki" (Champion) rank in pro sumo, and was a groundbreaking force in the internationalization of sumo.

2001 - US Sumo Open


KONISHIKI's presence attracted over 600 fans to the inaugural US Sumo Open. KONISHIKI announced at the event, and graciously signed autographs for endless lines of sumo fans. KONISHIKI also made a number of TV appearances, including on "Good Morning L.A."

2001 - Nisei Week (Parade Grand Marshal)

Nisei Week (Parade Grand Marshal) & Tofu Festival KONISHIKI, serving as the Nisei Week Parade Grand Marshal, participated with Japanese and CSA sumo wrestlers in this renowned event. KONISHIKI also joined CSA members for a sumo demonstration at the Tofu Festival in downtown Los Angeles.

2005 - Grand Sumo Las Vegas


KONISHIKI and CSA Director Andrew Freund both announced the 2001 US Sumo Open, and they were reunited as co-announcers for the historic Grand Sumo Las Vegas (October 7-9, 2005 in Mandalay Bay) for crowds of 25,000 people.
