SUMO ARCHIVES

California Sumo Association has held over 150 live sumo demonstrations and competitions to audiences of up to 30,000 people, all over the U.S., and on five different continents. Besides the annual US SUMO OPEN , a few of the largest recent events include:

LOS ANGELES GRAND SUMO TOURNAMENT (June 7-8, 2008) >> Watch Video
Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena

The 2008 Los Angeles Grand Sumo Tournament featured the entire top-division of professional sumo wrestlers, for a two-day tournament. Yokozuna Asashoryu won the first day, while sekiwake Kisenosato won the second day. Asashoryu then defeated Kisenosato for the overall championship at the end of the second day.
CSA coordinated the venue, the construction of the dohyo (clay sumo ring), and many media promotions. CSA also worked with the Japanese producer on event logistics. CSA Director Andrew Freund was the house announcer for both days of the tournament, just as he was announcer for Grand Sumo Las Vegas in 2005.

A push-out victory is imminent! Kotomitsuki VS Chiyotaikai. The smallest pro sumo wrestler present (Ama, in purple) won an upset victory against his fellow Mongolian, Grand Champion Asashoryu.
